Tirunelveli to Rameswaram by cab

From Tirunelveli it is about 240 km, a drive of four and a half to five hours along the coastal route through Tuticorin and Ramanathapuram, before crossing to the island over the Pamban bridge.

Ramanathaswamy Temple
A large Shiva temple known for its long pillared corridors and its 22 sacred tanks, where pilgrims bathe.
Dhanushkodi
The ruined town at the tip of the island, reached by a road along the sea. Access after evening hours can be restricted.
Pamban Bridge
The bridge that links the island to the mainland, and a sight in its own right.
A. P. J. Abdul Kalam Memorial
A memorial to the former President, born on the island.
How to plan it
- Day 1: Drive from Tirunelveli in the morning, reach Rameswaram by afternoon and see the sea front.
- Day 2: Bathe at the sacred tanks and take darshan early, then visit Dhanushkodi.
- Return the same evening or the next day, depending on your energy.
Good to know before you go
- The 22-tank bathing ritual starts early. Follow the temple’s guidance on dress and timing.
- Vehicle timings for Dhanushkodi change, so confirm before you drive there.
- Festival days and weekends bring heavy traffic on the bridge.
