Tirunelveli to Madurai by cab

Route and travel time
The usual route is the four-lane national highway through Kovilpatti and Virudhunagar. The distance is about 160 km, and the drive takes about 3 hours. A round trip is about 320 km.The best time to go is october to March, and early morning for the temple.
What to see in Madurai
Meenakshi Amman Temple
The city landmark, with towering gopurams and carved halls. Phones are restricted inside, so use the lockers.
Thirumalai Nayakkar Mahal
A 17th-century palace with large arches and a courtyard, not far from the temple.
Gandhi Memorial Museum
A museum in an old palace, with a section on the freedom movement.
Thiruparankundram and Alagar Kovil
Two Murugan and Vishnu temples on the edge of the city, easy to fit in on the way.
Day trip or overnight
- Day trip: leave by 6:00 am, see the temple before the midday closing, eat in the old city and start back by late afternoon.
- Overnight: stay near the temple, see the evening ceremony and use the car the next morning for Alagar Kovil.
- Airport: Madurai Airport lies on the southern side of the city, so an airport drop does not need to cross the centre.
Good to know before you go
- The highway has toll plazas. Toll and parking are paid by the customer.
- The Meenakshi Temple has a dress code and closes for part of the afternoon. Confirm the timings before you go.
- Traffic through the old city is heavy in the evening, so allow extra time.
