Tirunelveli to Palamudhircholai by cab
Palamudhircholai, also written Pazhamudircholai, is the sixth abode of Lord Murugan. It stands on the wooded Alagar hills about 25 km north of Madurai, near the Alagar Kovil Vishnu temple, and it is the only one of the six abodes where Murugan is shown with both consorts.
From Tirunelveli it is about 185 km, so it is best treated as part of a Madurai trip. Many guests visit Thiruparankundram on the way in, the Meenakshi Temple in the city and then Palamudhircholai the next morning.
Route and travel time
The usual route is the Madurai highway, then the road north-east of the city to Alagar Kovil. The distance is about 185 km, and the drive takes about 3.5 to 4 hours. A round trip is about 370 km.The best time to go is early morning, and the cooler months.

- One long day: leave before dawn, see Thiruparankundram and Palamudhircholai, and return by night.
- Two days: stay in Madurai, see the city, and go to Alagar Kovil in the morning.
- Confirm timings for the hill temple, which vary with the day and the season.

- The hill road and temple have their own rules for vehicles and timing. Ask before you go.
- Carry water and light snacks. Facilities on the hill are limited.
- Dress modestly for the temple and remove footwear where required.
