Tirunelveli to Thirutani by cab
Thirutani, also spelled Thiruttani, is a Murugan hill temple in the north of Tamil Nadu, close to the border with Andhra Pradesh. It is about 600 km from Tirunelveli, so this is a proper multi-day trip, not a day out. The drive alone takes ten to eleven hours.
For most families the temple is one stop on a longer circuit. It sits about 85 km from Chennai and not far from Tirupati, so we usually plan it together with Chennai or a Tirupati darshan. Tell us the days you have, and we will suggest a realistic itinerary.
Route and travel time
The usual route is the national highways through Madurai, Tiruchirappalli and Villupuram, then towards Arakkonam. The distance is about 600 km, and the drive takes 10 to 11 hours. A round trip is about 1200 km.The best time to go is october to February.

Thiruttani Murugan Temple
The hill temple, traditionally reached by a flight of steps that pilgrims count as symbolic of the days of the year.
Chennai
About 85 km away, useful for a night stop and for other temples and the coast.
Tirupati
A common extension for pilgrim families, about 70 km from Thiruttani.
Kanchipuram
A major temple town on the way between Chennai and the south.
Planning the trip
- Day 1: Drive north and stop overnight at a comfortable point, such as Trichy or Villupuram.
- Day 2: Reach Thiruttani for darshan, and continue to Chennai or Tirupati.
- Days 3 and 4: Return by a different route, or add Kanchipuram.
Good to know before you go
- A trip of this length needs a driver rest plan. We arrange it with you, and driver bata and night halts are quoted upfront.
- Inter-state travel to Andhra Pradesh needs a state permit, which carries extra charges.
- For a solo traveller, a train may be cheaper. A cab suits families, groups and travellers with luggage or elders.
