Tirunelveli to Yercaud by cab
Yercaud, a quiet hill station in the Shevaroy hills near Salem, is about 410 km from Tirunelveli. The drive takes eight to nine hours, mostly on the highway to Madurai, Dindigul, Karur and Salem, followed by a ghat road with around twenty hairpin bends. It is a good choice for families who want a smaller, calmer hill town than Ooty or Kodaikanal.
Because of the distance, most guests plan two or three nights. We build in halts so the driver is rested and the car reaches the ghat road in good light.

The usual route is Madurai, Dindigul and Karur, then Salem and the Yercaud ghat road. The distance is about 410 km, and the drive takes 8 to 9 hours. A round trip is about 820 km.The best time to go is october to February; the summer festival is usually held in May.

Yercaud Lake
A small lake at the heart of the town, where boating and evening walks are the main activity.

Yercaud is known for coffee and spice plantations, which many resorts let guests walk through.
Suggested plan
- Day 1: Leave early, reach Salem by midday and climb to Yercaud in the afternoon.
- Day 2: Viewpoints, the lake and the falls, at a slow pace.
- Day 3: Return via Salem, or continue on to Ooty or Coimbatore.
Good to know before you go
- The ghat road has about twenty hairpin bends. Avoid it in heavy rain or fog.
- Weekends and school holidays fill the hotels, so book early.
- Toll and parking are paid by the customer.
